Statement regarding the system outage on 24th October 2023

In respect of the system’s unavailability on 24th October 2023, between 9:00 am and 2:20 pm CET, we would like to inform you that, according to preliminary findings from our hosting service provider, the system’s downtime was a result of a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on the network and server infrastructure of the Oktawave data center.

We are awaiting an official statement from Oktawave, which will provide a comprehensive overview of the entire situation, including the particular incidents that occurred, the reasons for the extended downtime and the measures that will be implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future. The advanced rebalancing tools, data replication, and backup mechanisms implemented by our team proved to be of limited utility in the face of almost complete unavailability of the network and server infrastructure in the data center.

Due to the prolonged service unavailability and the lack of information from Oktawave regarding the problem resolution timeframe, at approximately 12:00 we decided to initiate the data restoration procedure from the nightly backup stored at external servers in another data center to be able to generate all the necessary production reports. Nonetheless, this is a time consuming procedure, which was completed only after Oktawave had resumed their services.

Regardless of Oktawave’s explanations, we have already taken steps to implement a solution that will allow us to swiftly run data backup copies on a different provider’s infrastructure to enable us to generate production reports in the event of a similar outage in the future.

We sincerely apologize for all the problems and the stressful situation, and we will make every effort to prevent a recurrence of such an incident in the future.
